Presenters and Workshop Leaders, Camp 2008
Carolyn Brandy is a composer, drummer, and teacher, and has worked in the Bay Area with many groups. She was a founding member and has four recordings with the jazz quintet, Alive! She has also released a self-produced CD of her own compositions entitled Skin Talk. She is currently writing, arranging and performing music with her new band, OJALA. Carolyn is a practitioner of the Yoruba-based Cuban religion, Regla de Ocha, and was initiated as a priest.
Luisah Teish is the author of Jambalaya: The Natural Woman's Book of Personal
Charms and Practical Rituals.
She is an initiated elder in the Ifa/Orisha tradition as a priestess of
Oshun, the Goddess of Love, Art, and Sensuality. And she received the title
Yeye'woro (Woman chief) from the Fatunmise Compound in Ile Ife, Nigeria.
She is the Founding Mother of Ile Orunmila Oshun (The House of Destiny and
Love) and the School of Ancient Mysteries / Sacred Arts Center. At present the
School is offering online classes in Mythology and Ritual and a two-year
certificate program (The Daughters of the Gelefun) in Women's Spirituality.
Teish is internationally known for her performances of Goddess myth and
poetry, as a conference weaver, and for public rituals such as The Festival of the
Bones: Celebrating the Ancestors of the World.
Movement
Sabine Grandke-Taft was a main presenter last year. She has studied over 20 modalities of body-centered healing and has lived and worked in India, Australia and for 3 years at the Esalen Institute. Sabine brings a bodily approach that teaches us how to feel and open our bodies as the trustable source to live the love and clarity that we already are.
Writing
Fran Skene will lead workshops in journaling and creative writing throughout the week. Bring your notebook!
Fran writes poetry, speculative fiction, and plays. Two of her plays and a number of puppet plays have been produced in Vancouver B.C.
Singing
Jen Turner will lead song circles. She leads a community non-audition women's choir on Gabriola Island, singing a cappella chants from many traditions. Jen's focus is on the joy of being in harmony, with oneself and with the group.
Art Table
Sue Earle and Myrna Buckley have taken on the mantles of Art Divas, inspiring us with the fabulously-supplied Art Table.
Sue Earle is a costume designer and fabric artist.
Myrna Buckley has experience in multi media painting and is an all-round fixer-upper.
Art Workshop
Joy Faigh has a background in metalwork and glassblowing and is a dedicated student of the creative process.
Goddess gayle is a full time artist with 30 years experience in ceramics; she has embraced her creativity as her spiritual journey. Together with Spirit they design art workshops that inspire others to explore and celebrate their own unique creativity.
